15th May, an International Day of Families

 15th May
An International Day of Families

When I was a child, my family gathered every Sunday for Lunch and dinner. During summer vacation, we visited our close relatives who lived out of towns or cities. My grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins would come together to share a meal, catch up on each other's lives, and play games. These days were the highlight of my life, and I looked forward to them with great anticipation. As I grew older and moved away from home, these family gatherings became less frequent. But the memories of those Sundays and summer vacations stayed with me, and I realized how lucky I was to have such a close-knit family. It's not just about the food or the games; it's about the love, support, and connection we share as a family. On this International Day of Families, I am reminded of cherishing our loved ones and making time for the people who matter most.

15th May is an International Day of Families, on which we try to recognize its invisible importance or necessity in our daily lives. As families are the foundations of any society, they provide emotional support, security, and a sense of belonging necessary for our overall well-being.

Emotional support is something we need from time to time. From sharing our joys to comforting us in our sorrows, we need our close loved ones to whom we can open our hearts. They offer us unconditional love and care that gives us the strength to stand upright in front of our life's challenges. The power of a strong family lies in the mutual love and understanding, support, care, and guidance that we receive from our loved ones. In short, emotions are an integral part of the family dynamic. As John Bowring once said:

"A happy family is but an earlier heaven."

A family can be a combination of parents and siblings or marital partners with kids.

Parents are considered the supporting pillars of a family and play a vital role in shaping their kids' future. They are primary caregivers, nurturers, and sacrifice makers to fulfill their kids' needs or ensure their well-being. They provide love, support, and guidance, which help them learn and grow. They trained them to be strong, responsible, compassionate, and confident. In the words of Ann Brashares:

"Parents were the only ones obligated to love you; from the rest of the world, you had to earn it."

Siblings are the first friends and partners in mischief with each other. They play, fight, share, learn, grow, and perform all the valuable stuff together. They are considered the most valuable emotional support and companionship, helping each other navigate life's ups and downs. Pamela Dugdale said:

"Siblings are the people we practice on, the people who teach us about fairness and cooperation and kindness and caring, quite often the hard way."

For married people, a spouse becomes an integral part of their family. They offer companionship, love, and support through thick and thin and are partners in building a life together. Joyce Brothers' quote about them is:

"Marriage is not just spiritual communion; it is also remembering to take out the trash."

The very important and cute family members are children upon which the building of a family establishes. They are a precious gift, bringing joy, laughter, and a sense of purpose into parents' lives. They teach patience and responsibility and share unconditional love with their parents, which makes them better parents and individuals. For children, Sophocles said:

"Children are the anchors that hold a mother to life."

However, despite the many positive aspects of family life, there can be some demerits, particularly regarding privacy. Family members may sometimes intrude into each other's personal space, leading to conflicts and tensions. But these issues can be addressed through open communication, mutual respect, and a willingness to understand each other's perspectives.

In conclusion, the importance of family cannot be overstated. Families provide a foundation for growth and development, from emotional support and security to love and care. Each member plays a unique and critical role in shaping others' lives, and together, they make them stronger, happier, and more resilient. On this International Day of Families, let us celebrate the power of family and cherish the bonds that tie us together.
